Before editing or making changes to the registry of your windows os, we recommend that you make a backup of the registry file. In case something goes wrong, you can then easily restore the backup copy.
Here we are gonna show you how to make a backup of your windows registry file / key or subkey and how to restore it.
To open the registry editor
Step 1. Click Start
Step 2. Type regedit in the search field and run it as administrator by right clicking on it.
Step 3. The Registry Editor window will open
Step 4. Now, in the Registry Editor locate the key or subkey that you want to backup. You can backup the complete registry file also, to do this highlight Computer
Step 5. Click on File > Export
Step 6. In the Export Registry File window, select the location where you want to save the .reg backup file. Now, in the File name field type a name.
Step 7. Click Save
To restore the registry
Follow step 1 and 2 to go the Registry Editor.
Step 3. Click File > Import
Step 4. In the Import Registry File window, locate your backup copy > Select the file > Open
